![]() The batteries for hub motors are large enough to warrant their own bag, so carrying extras would be rough. ![]() With the hub motor style, once they're dead they just become resistance to moving. With the batteries dead, I can take the Smartdrive off the chair and put it in my backpack or carry an extra battery around. I've been looking at power assistance as well, and while I agree that the level and feel of control varies vastly between devices like the E-motion wheels and the Smartdrive, the deciding factor for me was the weight. Also note that this is the M25's, which I hear are a big jump in quality from the M15's, as the M25's are an integration of the features and quality from the E Motion line and the Twion line. I plan to take them for a spin into town probably next Thursday. I can come back and give a more accurate life review in a week or so after I've tried them more outside, if you'd find that helpful. I didn't try the cruise control but I'm honestly not sure how much I'd ever need it, even on hills, as they're so easy to push. And the power level can be tailored to what I feel comfortable with, and swapped on the fly to suit my needs. The E Motions were under my control, reactive to my touch. I had to constantly panic and race to switch it off whenever it would try and drive me into a ditch, because it was so difficult to control. I had had a trial with the Smart Drive MX2+ previously and this was light and day from that. He also said that due to the extra power from the wheels they can make lightweight chairs extremely tippy, so he recommends such users never take their anti-tips off even if they normally would. I was too scared to try to wheelie on them (first time user) but the demo tech wheelied across the room on them no problem, though he was clear that you can't balance on them as they add extra force to your attempts to hold the wheel in place, you can only wheelie forward (which is easy because of the power behind them). I was on carpet, and could speed across the room by giving the handrims a little boop from a finger on each hand. My demo with a working set was mindblowing. ![]() I had one company bring me a demo set that obviously wasn't working, but whenever I questioned what was happening they handwaved my issues away. If you have a trial with them, make sure it's a working set. No frontwheel though, this whole shebang was pushing my budget already, though I'll likely get an RGK frontwheel at some point as it would be pretty useful. ![]() I have a chair with E Motion M25s arriving next Wednesday. ![]()
